Now, if you were in your right mind, would you enter the trail after reading this sign? They might as well have said "Abandon hope all ye who enter here." Fortunately, I am not in my right mind. I am crazily committed to my SuHaeng practice. I had already invited the opportunity for challenging trails this week. So, I laughed at the sign and hoped my intuition was right.
Woods Canyon Trail led to Jacks Canyon Trail in the National Park. The path of this trail started out very covered with vegetation. Not a lot of visitors, I guess. Then it opened up into a wide dirt trail with frequent stones, flowers and bushes. This trail was not dramatic like the others I have visited, but the rugged beauty somehow touched my heart. I felt universal gratitude along this trail and everything felt intimate. I didn't plan on it, but this walk today became "Metta" Meditation. I was pleasantly surprised by the snake on my path and took it as a good omen. He didn't look well, but he was breathing and it looked like he was in the process of shedding his skin. Hmmm. Maybe this is the perfect trail to follow up on the Cathedral Rock vortex experience.
I didn't walk the full 22 miles (Oy vey!)But I did feel like it was a great place to camp. I hope to return and spend a whole day in the canyon. I am grateful for this rugged beauty. Some hawks were flying overhead, keeping track of my movement. I felt I was exactly where I am supposed to be...
